The Container Crane Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, design, and operational efficiency of container cranes in a port or terminal environment. This role involves managing a team of engineers and technicians, ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards, and optimizing the performance and reliability of crane equipment to support seamless port operations.


Key Responsibilities:

  1. Maintenance & Repair Management:
    • Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance schedules for container cranes.
    • Supervise diagnostic and repair activities to minimize downtime.
    • Coordinate with suppliers and vendors for spare parts procurement and inventory management.
  2. Team Leadership:
    • Lead and mentor a team of engineers, technicians, and support staff.
    • Assign tasks and monitor progress to ensure timely completion of projects.
    • Provide training programs to enhance team skills and technical expertise.
  3. Operational Oversight:
    • Monitor crane performance metrics and identify areas for improvement.
    • Ensure cranes operate efficiently and meet operational demands.
    • Collaborate with operations and logistics teams to align crane availability with shipping schedules.
  4. Engineering Design & Innovation:
    • Oversee upgrades, retrofits, and modifications to enhance crane functionality.
    • Evaluate new technologies to improve crane operations and reduce operational costs.
    • Work with design engineers to ensure compliance with project specifications and standards.
  5. Health, Safety, and Compliance:
    • Ensure adherence to safety regulations, including OSHA and local safety standards.
    • Conduct regular inspections and risk assessments to maintain a safe working environment.
    • Maintain documentation for audits and regulatory compliance.
  6. Budget & Resource Management:
    • Prepare and manage budgets for maintenance and capital improvement projects.
    • Optimize resource allocation to achieve cost-effective results.
    • Track expenditures and report on financial performance related to engineering activities.

Qualifications:

  1. Educational Background:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
    • A Master’s degree in Engineering Management or related field is a plus.
  2. Experience:
    • Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in container crane maintenance or related fields.
    • Proven track record in a managerial or supervisory role.
  3. Technical Skills:
    • In-depth knowledge of container crane systems, including electrical, hydraulic, and structural components.
    • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
    • Proficiency in engineering software and tools.
  4. Soft Skills:
    • Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to work under pressure.
  5. Certifications:
    • Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is preferred.
    • Crane-specific training or certifications (e.g., CMAA, FEM, or similar) are advantageous.

Work Environment:

  • This position typically involves working in a port or terminal environment, requiring regular visits to crane installations.
  • Candidates must be comfortable with heights, confined spaces, and varying weather conditions.
