The Container Crane Engineering Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, design, and operational efficiency of container cranes in a port or terminal environment. This role involves managing a team of engineers and technicians, ensuring compliance with safety and industry standards, and optimizing the performance and reliability of crane equipment to support seamless port operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintenance & Repair Management:
- Develop and implement preventive and corrective maintenance schedules for container cranes.
- Supervise diagnostic and repair activities to minimize downtime.
- Coordinate with suppliers and vendors for spare parts procurement and inventory management.
- Team Leadership:
- Lead and mentor a team of engineers, technicians, and support staff.
- Assign tasks and monitor progress to ensure timely completion of projects.
- Provide training programs to enhance team skills and technical expertise.
- Operational Oversight:
- Monitor crane performance metrics and identify areas for improvement.
- Ensure cranes operate efficiently and meet operational demands.
- Collaborate with operations and logistics teams to align crane availability with shipping schedules.
- Engineering Design & Innovation:
- Oversee upgrades, retrofits, and modifications to enhance crane functionality.
- Evaluate new technologies to improve crane operations and reduce operational costs.
- Work with design engineers to ensure compliance with project specifications and standards.
- Health, Safety, and Compliance:
- Ensure adherence to safety regulations, including OSHA and local safety standards.
- Conduct regular inspections and risk assessments to maintain a safe working environment.
- Maintain documentation for audits and regulatory compliance.
- Budget & Resource Management:
- Prepare and manage budgets for maintenance and capital improvement projects.
- Optimize resource allocation to achieve cost-effective results.
- Track expenditures and report on financial performance related to engineering activities.
Qualifications:
- Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Structural Engineering (or equivalent).
- A Master’s degree in Engineering Management or related field is a plus.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in container crane maintenance or related fields.
- Proven track record in a managerial or supervisory role.
- Technical Skills:
- In-depth knowledge of container crane systems, including electrical, hydraulic, and structural components.
- Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Proficiency in engineering software and tools.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong leadership and decision-making abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to work under pressure.
- Certifications:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is preferred.
- Crane-specific training or certifications (e.g., CMAA, FEM, or similar) are advantageous.
Work Environment:
- This position typically involves working in a port or terminal environment, requiring regular visits to crane installations.
- Candidates must be comfortable with heights, confined spaces, and varying weather conditions.
