JR HSQE – West Palm Beach
Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Junior HSQE Officer to join our team. The role is integral to ensuring compliance with industry standards and promoting a culture of safety, quality, and environmental responsibility within our shipping operations. The successful candidate will support the HSQE department in maintaining and improving our management systems, auditing processes, and regulatory compliance efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Health & Safety:
o Assist in implementing and monitoring safety management systems onboard vessels and in office operations.
o Conduct routine risk assessments and support accident and incident investigations.
o Promote a safe working culture by providing training and awareness sessions.
o Ensure compliance with local, international, and company-specific health and safety regulations.
- Quality Assurance:
o Assist in maintaining ISO certifications (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001).
o Conduct internal audits and inspections to ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.
o Identify non-conformities and support corrective and preventive actions.
- Environmental Compliance:
o Support the implementation of environmental management practices to minimize environmental impact.
o Monitor compliance with MARPOL regulations and other environmental standards.
o Participate in initiatives to promote sustainability and reduce the company’s carbon footprint.
- Regulatory Compliance:
o Keep up-to-date with industry standards, including IMO, SOLAS, ISM Code, and other shipping regulations.
o Assist in preparing for external inspections and audits by flag state, port state, and classification societies.
- Documentation & Reporting:
o Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, audits, and training sessions.
o Prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders, including analysis of HSQE performance metrics.
o Support the review and update of company policies and procedures.
Qualifications & Skills
- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Maritime Studies, Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field.
- Previous time at sea preferred
- Experience:
- Entry-level candidates or those with 1-2 years of experience in a similar role (preferably in the maritime industry).
- Skills:
o Strong organizational and communication skills.
o Attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.
o Proficient in MS Office Suite and knowledge of HSQE management software is an advantage.
