VP of Port Operations
Looking to hire a VP of Port Operations for a cargo transportation services company that ships to the The Bahamas and The Caribbean.
Specific duties
Develop and implement strategic plans to optimize terminal operations, improve productivity,
and achieve financial targets
Manage the vessel planning, yard operations and maintenance of yard equipment
Provides the leadership and direction for the Port/Terminal operations.
Ensures compliance with HSSE policies & procedures.
Enforces safe working practices and ensure lost time injuries are kept to a minimum.
Ensures a cost-efficient operation in excess of current best practices.
Responsible for setting and achieving the budget for the reporting functions.
Responsibility that all managers and labor in the operation are trained in best operation
practices with regards to advanced operations strategies and new technology.
Manage employee performance issues including training, appraisals, discipline, and
grievances.
General requirements
Undergraduate degree required
Post graduate degree in Port and/or Terminal Management, or related business studies
preferred.
Minimum 10-12 years in operations management roles in container terminals.
Minimum 3 years experience handling technical issues & negotiations with third parties
The position requires a Professional Standard of Knowledge to lead teams through
functional/general expertise in the Operations and associated functions as well as broad
management skills.
Ability to provide leadership, obtain cooperation and promote a team environment to meet
objectives.
Proven experience in cost and productivity optimization (through process optimization) as
well as design and implementation of new operation procedures.
Strong understanding of the role of IT in a container terminal environment
Experience in finance related matters, setting budgets and reporting against financial
objectives.
Proven project management skills
