Field Service Engineer – Marine Systems
Fully remote – prefer Houston, TX area
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Field Service Engineer to provide technical support, troubleshooting, repair, and after-sales service for installed marine equipment. This is a hands-on, customer-facing position requiring strong electrical, controls, and mechanical troubleshooting capabilities.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working independently in the field, supporting customers remotely, and traveling frequently—sometimes on short notice.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform field service, troubleshooting, repair, and technical support for installed equipment.
- Diagnose electrical, PLC/control system, mechanical, and piping-related issues.
- Provide remote troubleshooting and technical assistance to customers.
- Support chemical resupply requirements associated with installed systems.
- Read and interpret P&IDs, general arrangement drawings, and electrical drawings.
- Maintain strong health, safety, service documentation, and reporting practices.
- Work effectively with customers and internal technical/service teams.
- The position specifically requires experience with LV electrical installations, PLC/control systems, piping systems, and technical drawings.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of related experience, preferably in field service or technical support.
- Marine industry experience preferred.
- College degree or equivalent relevant technical experience.
- USN/USCG experience as Engineman / Machinery Technician / Electricians Mate in lieu of college degree
- Strong knowledge of low-voltage electrical systems, PLC logic/control systems, and troubleshooting.
- Mechanical and piping-system experience.
- Ability to interpret P&IDs, electrical drawings, and general arrangement drawings.
- Chemical-handling experience is an advantage.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Microsoft Office proficiency; ERP/database experience preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and effectively under pressure.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel frequently, including on short notice.
This role is particularly well suited to a hands-on marine service engineer or technician with a combination of electrical/controls and mechanical troubleshooting experience who enjoys working directly with customers and equipment in the field.
