Senior Classification Surveyor: Bergen

Our client is looking for a Senior Surveyor to be located in Bergen. The Senior Surveyor I is considered an intermediate to advanced level Surveyor position.

The Senior Surveyor position involves examining and reporting on marine vessels and structures during and after construction to ensure compliance with relevant requirements. This includes maintaining vessel classification and meeting safety, loadline, tonnage, cargo gear, and pollution prevention certification standards. The role also includes office administration and monitoring business performance at a designated port.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a specialist in applying rules, regulations, and principles.
  • Conduct routine surveys on vessels and marine structures for classification and statutory compliance.
  • Prepare accurate inspection and survey reports.
  • Resolve client issues within the scope of expertise.
  • Organize and maintain survey files.
  • Stay updated on industry developments and recommend process improvements.
  • Plan and coordinate surveying work phases.
  • Monitor work quality and consistency of subordinate surveyors.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and training to junior surveyors.
  • Promote our client’s services to current and potential customers.

Requirements: Education & Experience:

  • Qualifications in engineering or physical science from a tertiary institution (minimum two years program) or marine engineering qualifications with seagoing experience as a certified marine engineer.
  • Minimum three years of experience as a Surveyor.
  • Understanding of our client’s strategic technical positioning in the marine industry or eight years of experience in an engineering or survey capacity with an IACS member Classification Society.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Relevant certifications and licenses may be required.
  • Proficiency in understanding our client’s Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and safety policies.
  • Ability to read engineering plans and grasp shipbuilding practices and vessel operations.
  • Competence in performing surveys.
  • Familiarity with relevant computer software.
  • Knowledge of ships’ engineering systems and machinery.
  • Strong English communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Proficiency in Norwegian (optional).
