Senior Technical Manager – Maritime Regulations & Standards

Location: South Florida

An international maritime organization is seeking a Senior Technical Manager – Regulations & Standards to provide technical and regulatory leadership supporting oceangoing vessels and maritime stakeholders.

This position oversees the interpretation and implementation of international maritime regulations, including SOLAS, MARPOL, and related IMO requirements, and provides technical guidance to shipowners, ship managers, classification societies, shipyards, and other industry stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor international regulatory developments and develop policies and technical guidance.
  • Provide technical determinations regarding exemptions, dispensations, vessel compliance, and regulatory interpretation.
  • Oversee programs involving CII, SEEMP, fuel-oil data, IHM, electronic record books, ballast-water management, and vessel inspections.
  • Liaise with and oversee Recognized Organizations and classification societies.
  • Provide technical support concerning vessel casualties, detentions, registration, and compliance matters.
  • Review and oversee approval of vessel plans and technical documentation.
  • Participate in IMO and other international maritime regulatory meetings.
  • Provide technical leadership across regulatory, certification, fleet-performance, and investigation functions.

Ideal Background

Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Maritime Transportation, Naval Architecture, or an equivalent technical discipline/experience. Classification society survey experience aboard oceangoing vessels is required, with passenger vessel and yacht experience preferred.

Candidates should possess extensive working knowledge of SOLAS, MARPOL, Load Lines, STCW, ISM, ISPS and related international maritime codes, together with strong leadership and stakeholder-management capabilities.
