Technical Manager – Maritime Regulations & Compliance
We are seeking a Technical Manager to support vessel regulatory compliance and provide technical guidance to shipowners, ship managers, classification societies, and other maritime stakeholders.
The position serves as a management-level member of the Regulations & Standards function, responding to technical and regulatory matters involving international maritime conventions, codes, vessel certification, and related compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Review technical requests involving exemptions, equivalencies, dispensations, and regulatory interpretations.
- Research applicable international requirements and recommend appropriate technical determinations.
- Manage regulatory programs involving CII, SEEMP, fuel-consumption verification, IHM and electronic record books.
- Prepare and communicate regulatory determinations to shipowners, managers, and classification societies.
- Support oversight and auditing of Recognized Organizations and classification societies.
- Analyze flag-state, port-state, and classification-society performance.
- Monitor new and amended international conventions and codes and assist with regulatory guidance.
- Conduct vessel audits and inspections as required.
Ideal Background
Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Maritime Transportation, or an equivalent technical discipline/experience. A senior deck or engineering officer license is required, with Master or Chief Engineer preferred. Port State, Flag State, or classification society survey experience is also preferred.
Strong knowledge of SOLAS, MARPOL, Load Lines, STCW, ISM, ISPS and related international maritime conventions and codes is important, along with practical knowledge of vessel construction and operations.
