Technical Superintendent
Technical Superintendent – Tanker Fleet: Houston, TX
Our client, an international shipowner and operator, is seeking an experienced Technical Superintendent to oversee the technical performance, reliability, safety, and cost-effective operation of assigned tanker vessels.
Serving as the primary shoreside technical contact for the vessels under your responsibility, you will work closely with shipboard management, marine operations, HSSEQ, procurement, commercial teams, class societies, flag authorities, and external vendors. The successful candidate will combine senior seagoing engineering experience with strong commercial awareness and the ability to manage vessel maintenance within established operational and budgetary targets.
Key responsibilities include:
- Provide day-to-day technical support and guidance to assigned vessels.
- Monitor machinery performance, vessel condition, reliability, and operational readiness.
- Plan and oversee preventive maintenance, repairs, spare-parts requirements, and technical projects.
- Develop and manage vessel operating, maintenance, and repair budgets.
- Ensure compliance with class, flag, port-state, SIRE, and company requirements.
- Plan and manage drydockings, major repairs, surveys, and vessel-upgrade projects.
- Review the quality, cost, and timely delivery of work performed by shipyards, contractors, and equipment vendors.
- Identify technical deficiencies and implement practical solutions that improve vessel safety, efficiency, and reliability.
- Minimize vessel downtime while maintaining high technical and regulatory standards.
- Support long-term asset-management strategies designed to preserve vessel condition and maximize asset value.
- Promote continuous improvement across the fleet and provide recommendations to senior fleet-management leadership.
We are looking for candidates with the following:
- First Class Marine Engineer Certificate of Competency or a degree in Marine Engineering.
- Minimum of two years of seagoing experience as Chief Engineer.
- Previous Chief Engineer experience aboard oil or petroleum tankers strongly preferred.
- At least two years of shoreside technical or fleet-management experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of tanker machinery, maintenance programs, drydocking, class requirements, flag-state regulations, port-state control, and SIRE expectations.
- Demonstrated troubleshooting, budgeting, vendor-management, and project-management capabilities.
- Ability to manage multiple vessels, technical priorities, and time-sensitive operational issues.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with vessel crews and shoreside stakeholders.
