Our client is a leading provider of scientific and technical consulting services in the industrial and maritime sectors.

Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Chemist with expertise in the testing and analysis of fuels and liquid cargoes. The successful candidate will be responsible for directing and witnessing testing and detailed chemical analyses to assess quality, purity, and compliance with international standards and regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sample Analysis: Direct full chemical analysis of various types of fuels (e.g., gasoline, diesel, aviation fuels, marine fuels) and liquid cargoes (e.g., chemicals, edible oils), ensuring adherence to ASTM, ISO, or other relevant standards.
  • Testing Techniques: Utilize a range of analytical techniques including but not limited to Gas Chromatography (GC), High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Infrared Spectroscopy (IR), and Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP) for quantitative and qualitative analysis.
  • Quality Assurance: Maintain and manage quality control procedures to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and repeatability of test results. Participate in proficiency testing and inter-laboratory comparisons.
  • Data Interpretation: Interpret complex data, prepare detailed reports, and communicate findings effectively to clients or internal teams, highlighting any potential issues or non-conformances.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Stay updated with changes in industry standards, safety regulations, and environmental policies to ensure all testing aligns with current requirements.
  • Project Management: Plan and execute testing projects, manage timelines, and coordinate with other departments or external stakeholders as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field. A Master’s degree or Ph.D. is preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a laboratory setting, specifically in fuel and liquid cargo analysis.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in using advanced analytical instruments and software for data analysis. Knowledge of LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) is a plus.
  • Certifications: Certification from recognized bodies like American Chemical Society (ACS) or similar, preferred.
  • Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, meticulous attention to detail, excellent communication abilities for report writing and client interaction.
  • Compliance: Familiarity with safety procedures, environmental regulations, and industry standards (e.g., ASTM, ISO).
