The Industrial Fire Investigator is responsible for conducting thorough investigations into industrial fires and explosions to determine their origin and cause. This role involves collecting and analyzing evidence, preparing detailed reports, and working with law enforcement, insurance companies, and regulatory agencies. The investigator will also provide expert testimony when necessary and contribute to fire prevention initiatives within industrial and maritime facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site fire and explosion investigations in industrial settings, including manufacturing plants, refineries, power plants, warehouses, ships, and offshore structures.
- Collect and document physical evidence, conduct interviews, and analyze burn patterns, fire dynamics, and material behaviors.
- Determine the cause of fires, including mechanical failure, electrical malfunctions, human error, or intentional acts (arson).
- Collaborate with law enforcement, insurance adjusters, engineers, and regulatory agencies during investigations.
- Prepare detailed reports summarizing investigation findings, including cause determination and contributing factors.
- Provide expert testimony in legal proceedings when required.
- Stay current with fire investigation techniques, NFPA standards, OSHA regulations, and industry best practices.
- Assist in developing fire prevention programs, policies, and training for safety teams.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Fire Science, Engineering, Criminal Justice, or a related field preferred.
- Certifications: Certified Fire Investigator (CFI), Certified Fire & Explosion Investigator (CFEI), or equivalent preferred.
- Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in fire investigation, industrial safety, or a related field.
- Technical Skills:
- Strong knowledge of fire science, thermodynamics, and industrial fire protection systems.
- Proficiency in using fire investigation tools, software, and forensic analysis techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret industrial blueprints, electrical schematics, and safety reports.
- Soft Skills:
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently or in a team.
- Ability to handle high-pressure situations and work in hazardous environments.
