Job Overview for the Marine Surveyor and Expert Witness (Marine Engineer):
We are seeking a Marine Engineer, 2/A/E or higher to carry out forensic investigations of marine casualties and associated incidents worldwide. You will serve as a Marine Surveyor and Expert Witness. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting post-incident marine surveys, providing technical advice and expertise, and acting as an expert witness in legal proceedings related to maritime accidents and personal injury cases.
Responsibilities for the Marine Engineer – Marine Surveyor and Expert Witness:
The primary goal of this role is to conduct forensic investigations of marine incidents and casualties on a global scale.
- Conduct investigations and assessments focused on marine engineering issues
- Carry out onsite surveys related to marine engineering
- Prepare and deliver reports and correspondence outlining investigation findings
- Offer expert testimony in court or arbitration based on written analysis
- Advise and support clients on marine engineering-related concerns
- Adhere to and follow company protocols and procedures
- Participate in marketing initiatives and contribute to business development efforts
- Perform additional tasks as required within the role’s scope
- Valid Class 1 Certificate of Competency (STCW III/2) or USCG 2/A/E unlimited license or higher
- Previous sea-going experience as Chief Engineer or Second Engineer
- Detail-oriented and proactive with a high level of motivation
- Positive, approachable, and enthusiastic attitude
- Strong communication skills with proficiency in English, both written and spoken
- Competence in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Flexibility to travel frequently, often with short notice
- Experience with dual-fuel engines or classification surveys is a plus
