Position Overview

An established maritime organization is seeking an experienced Procurement / Purchasing Manager to lead the sourcing and purchasing of technical and operational commodities supporting vessel operations. This role is responsible for end-to-end procurement activities, supplier management, contract negotiation, and cost control across a fleet operating in domestic and international trades.

The ideal candidate will have at least five (5) years of hands-on procurement experience within a shipping company or shipowner environment, with deep familiarity sourcing technical marine equipment, spares, and services.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage procurement activities for technical, operational, and consumable marine commodities

  • Source, evaluate, and negotiate with vendors for vessel spares, equipment, and services

  • Issue RFQs, evaluate bids, and award purchase orders in line with operational requirements

  • Coordinate closely with Technical, Marine, Operations, and Finance teams

  • Ensure timely delivery of parts and services to vessels and terminals

  • Maintain approved vendor lists and manage supplier performance

  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and long-term supply agreements

  • Monitor inventory levels and support cost-reduction initiatives

  • Ensure procurement activities comply with company policies and maritime regulations

  • Track purchasing data, KPIs, and savings initiatives

  • Support drydock and major repair procurement activities as required


Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 years of procurement / purchasing experience within a shipping company, shipowner, or vessel operator

  • Proven experience purchasing technical marine commodities, including:

    • Engine and deck spares

    • Mechanical and electrical components

    • Pumps, valves, piping, steel, and consumables

    • Class-related and regulatory equipment

  • Strong understanding of vessel operations and technical requirements

  • Experience negotiating vendor contracts and service agreements

  • Proficiency with procurement systems, ERP platforms, or marine purchasing software

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and negotiation skills

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced operational environment

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting drydockings or major vessel projects

  • Familiarity with US-flag and/or international vessel operations

  • Background working with shipyards, OEMs, and global suppliers

  • Experience managing procurement budgets and cost-savings initiatives
